Give me a break!

I feel good testers have wide ranging experience. Someone who has just entered the IT market purely from testing "door" armed with a qualification can bluff their way far in contracting.

Testing is a discipline that requires technical understanding, communication skills, business awareness, structured thinking and most importantly analytical skills.

Companies/Agencies did latch on ISEB pretty fast, as there wasnt any alternatives to this. Whether or not a test certification programme is valid, I am not sure. I think there could be value in test management certification. Automated testing certification is an easier benchmark, but testing is not so clear cut.

"If you can't find a certification with integrity, go certify yourself." It is more or less how it happens with long-termers. I was thinking of writing some kind of guide (rather than a course) - "test managing in chaos" in working title :) I like testing as an area because it is multi-disciplined but it requires a thick skin, and faithful adherence to testing cause. Testing has been much maligned in recent years, a lot due to confusion around the role of test managers in Agile/SCRUM environments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
